Nearly four years after the first post, we have made it to double digits: the blog now has 10 followers. Huzzah! I feel like I should do something to celebrate, but I'm not sure what. I'm excited that so many people think my opinion is worth reading. Thank you!
In other exciting news... Although I love being a librarian, it was not my first career choice: I got that B.A. in English for a reason. I wanted to edit books and compile indices, or perhaps work for a publisher, evaluating manuscripts for publication or rejection. But it's a hard field to break in to. So I'm also excited to say that I'm editing a manuscript for a real writer, who has a contract with an actual publisher. I'm not getting paid, but the pleasure of putting in necessary commas and fixing errant quotation marks is reward enough. I won't mention the book title or author's name yet, since, contract notwithstanding, the book isn't actually published yet. Hopefully this will only be the first of many.
Alfred Hitchcock: The Master of Suspense: A Pop-up Book, paper engineering by Kees Moerbeek. I found this while looking for a book in the movie section that would answer a patron question. I didn't find any books there to help the patron, but I found this, and it was cool. I've never seen a Hitchcock movie, because I am a chicken, but my interest has been mildly stirred.
The paper engineering is totally awesome. There can never be too many pop-up books.
Guards! Guards!, by Terry Pratchett. It'd be a close call between the witches and the guards as to which group is my favorite. It's nice to go back and read these in order, since, when I read them all muddled up half a dozen years ago, I got really confused as to the timeline. Things make so much more sense.
The binding is still fine in this one, but there are more printing errors or perhaps (gasp!) even original errors faithfully reproduced.
Finally, there's bad news over at Boys Rule and the Charlotte Mecklenburg County Public Library. Their tough situation makes our whopping-percentage budget cut seem like whining. They made me an Honorary Guy, and I'm very sad about Darth Bill and Master Jedi Zack.

Hooray! We started blogging at about the same time (I was February of 2006). And I follow you. There's a lot about promoting blogs that is really hard. Keep up the good work.
