meh.

Thanks for the comments from some of my readers following my last post.   And Ms. Yingling, I promoted your blog at a conference earlier in the month-- I did a presentation on YA Collection Development at a district-level conference, and on the topic of online collection development resources, I used your blog as an example of the sorts of blogs I like to follow: bloggers for whom librarianship is the focus, and blogging is an extra.  I appreciate your hard work!

Running the Books: The Adventures of an Accidental Prison Librarian, by Avi Steinberg.  I saw this title online somewhere and it looked interesting.  I've only read 50 pages, but I'm quitting.  I don't really care about the character.  Or, since this is a biography, the author.  It sounded interesting, and I was excited because I've never read, or, more accurately, finished, a biography before; it won't be this one, though.
I have no sympathy for the author; he made poor choices in school and life and subsequently had a hard time finding a job.  Nothing new there.  And I'm not opposed to giving library jobs to people without advanced degrees, but I am opposed to venerating a "librarian" who squeaked by on the drug test and only applied because he couldn't find anything better.

Tongues of Serpents, by Naomi Novik.   This was a little on the disappointing side: not quite so much action and intrigue as we are used to.  The story plodded along with the characters' journey.  Here's hoping the next one will pick up a bit.  No date yet on that next installment, but I hope it's soon enough that I will remember all the important parts from this book.

Thank you! I do try to stay focused on books, but sometimes it's hard.

I know you are busy now that you are a mom but I really enjoy your posts. Maybe you can squeeze in one or two more a month.
